Spring Lake, NC – March 17, 2025 – Sherpa 6, Inc. is proud to announce that last summer it was awarded a contract by Army Combat Capability Development Command (DEVCOM) C5ISR Center to develop and test a frequency diverse private 5G system, alongside a non-traditional mmWave solution. This initiative aims to evaluate the feasibility of using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies to enhance situational awareness and communication capabilities for Warfighting functions. This award underscores Sherpa 6’s commitment to advancing tactical communication technologies that support military operations in increasingly dynamic and complex environments.
The project includes multiple 5G radios and a meshed mmWave system, facilitating the testing of a prototype tactical command post designed for on-the-move operations. Sherpa 6 is providing an open standards infrastructure, managing the system’s operational, administrative, and maintenance aspects through its Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform, Watchtower. The initiative also includes experimentation with cutting-edge antenna designs.
This testing is critical for evaluating how private 5G systems can improve battlefield communication and operational efficiency. By collecting data on network reliability, latency, bandwidth, and scalability in challenging and mobile environments, the project provides valuable insights into how private 5G systems can bolster real-time decision-making, ensure seamless data exchange, and improve situational awareness. These metrics play a crucial role in determining the system’s readiness for large-scale deployment, ultimately enhancing connectivity and operational effectiveness for the Warfighter.
